Crocheted Square Bag

May is the time of year that calls for bright colors as summer is just around the corner, at least where I live.  So, I was inspired to create this Bag with bright colors that will come in useful during the following months filled different outings and tasks to be done.  Crocheted Square Bag 4 (2)

The yarn I used in my project was 3 skeins.  One that was used as the border to each square and the handles is Red Heart With Love in the colorway Blue Hawaii. The other two skeins I used to make the squares are two types of variegated yarns that I found in my stash that I had lost the labels for so unfortunately I do not know the brand of these.  They are very bright in color and played well with each other.

The pattern I followed for this bag was mostly based off the one I found here, on Ravelry.com.  I did choose to use squares that had 5 rounds each with the fifth round of each squared acting as a border in the Blue Hawaii color.  I chose to make 8 squares of each of the varigated colorways (16 in total) and I made two rows of squares for each colorway.

Then, I alternated the colorways when I attached them together so it would create a large stripe effect in the bag that wraps around after the stitching was completed.

I then created two straps.  Each was 10 stitches across of Half Double Crochet.  Then you can just make your desired length, just make sure that the straps end up being the same length.  I then attached the straps and as a final touch, added a single crochet border around each strap with the Blue Hawaii.

Overall, I really like the way this turned out.  I love the way the blue ties everything together and I feel like this bag will be very useful for the summer months.
